As we head into December the inshore waters start to cool considerably. This sets the stage for some of the years best Wahoo fishing conditions as there is a more defined temperature break at the edge of the gulfstream and offshore ledges. Blackfin tuna become more concentrated as well and can usually be found in the same areas as Wahoo. While the seas can be more fickle this time of year any weather window you get should be taken advantage of. Not only are the fish more concentrated in winter it’s also when the largest wahoo are usually caught, some approaching 100lbs! We had windy conditions for much of November that kept us off the water, but the boats that got out on the few nice days did well on both species. If you can break away from all the holiday hustle consider getting out on the water with us and seeing what the “off season” offshore of Charleston has to offer.
