What to Bring on your Fishing Charter? What to Wear?

Booking your first deep sea fishing charter is an exciting experience, but can also be very confusing. What should you bring along? What should you wear? How do you know if you’re bringing all the right equipment with you? How do you know you won’t look like Uncle Buck on vacation when you step aboard? Some simple tips can help make your first fishing trip go much more smoothly.

Clothing

When you go offshore fishing, it’s important to understand how the weather on shore and on the water vary. When you get out on the open water, you’re much more exposed to both the wind and the sun. That means you won’t want to have a lot of exposed skin, but neither will you want to be bundled up and sweating. The number one tip, no matter the time of year, is to think in layers.

Lightweight undergarments that are designed to wick away sweat are a good place to start. On top of that, you’ll want to wear light weight long sleeves that can be removed in case you get too warm. Consider pants that have zip-off legs or similar clothing for the most versatility. Be sure to check ahead for expected weather conditions and plan accordingly.

Sunscreen

When fishing the Wahoo, you’ll be aboard a well-appointed 50 foot yacht, with full air conditioning, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a living room containing satellite stereo and television, and a full kitchen. Since most of your time will be spent on deck, though, you’ll want to be sure to pack the proper protection from the sun. Even on cloudy days, the sun reflects off the water, creating a double-whammy of UV exposure. Sunscreen can prevent a nasty burn and ensure that you enjoy your day without going home with more to remember your trip by than exciting footage of your fishing and a cooler full of delicious fish.

Incidentals

If you’re prone to seasickness, be sure to come equipped with antidotes. Any medications you need to take at a specific time of the day should also accompany you on board, as well as any other necessities like glasses, contact solution, and other incidentals. The Wahoo is a well-appointed boat with many of the comforts of home, so whether you’re heading out for a full day on the water or a half-day of fishing, you’ll find everything you need to enjoy your deep sea fishing charter.
