Charleston is special: spend a couple of days enjoying our historic walking tours, museums, waterfront parks, and delicious food and drink, and you’ll never want to leave. Some of the best experiences to be had, however, are not found on land.
Fishing enthusiasts can spend a relaxing afternoon fishing our inshore tidal creeks or freshwater streams, cruising around in a kayak or set up on the dock at sunset. If you know when and where to go, you can also grab clutch of clams and crabs on the shore. These experiences will not disappoint – and for people looking to increase the excitement level and create a “once in a lifetime” event, a high-caliber Charleston fishing tour with Charleston Fishing Charters will blow you away.
Timing Is Everything
Whether you’re new to deep sea fishing or need a refresher, it’s important to review the species that cycle through our coastal waters before booking a Charleston fishing tour. Luckily, we’re blessed with an abundance of sea life here in South Carolina, so you’ll see and catch plenty on a half-day or full-day tour nearly year-round.
Our inshore fishing offers plentiful shallow coastal waters and estuaries and, depending on the season, you can see impressive fish. When the water is cooler, big game fish will be biting at the surface. You can expect to see blue marlin and other sailfins as well as dolphin, wahoo, and yellowfin tuna. Amberjack, Barracuda, and king mackerel inhabit the offshore waters, while sea bass, porgies, and snappers are schooling near the bottom along reefs. In late April, the Mahi start rolling in, and they’re always a favorite. Deepsea fishing in Charleston is truly something to remember.
Bottom fish are teaming here throughout the year with grouper, snapper, triggerfish, black and sea bass just waiting to bite the minute you drop a line. They don’t put up a fight, but they do add to a full day of fishing.
Know Your Vessel
The boat you go fishing on will heavily impact the type of trip you have. A larger boat will not only provide you comfort, but it is also far more seaworthy when compared to smaller boats (that means you’re less likely to get “seasick”). The heavier the boat, the smoother it generally rides. Our smallest boat, including its pulpit, is 50′ and weighs 37 tons.
Both of our luxurious yachts are stable, state of the art vessels ideal for comfortable travel. They have no trouble depositing our guests the forty miles to our offshore grounds. They are both fully outfitted with a wide array of state-of-the-art electronics to help our guests and guides find the best areas to fish. Finally, sound pollution may not be on your radar when researching boats, but it should be! Both of our yachts are equipped with smoke-free diesel and boast engine rooms that are heavily insulated. That means that you don’t have to worry about smoke or loud engine noise on your trip.
